Railroading Adventures For Boy & Girl Scout Groups

Thank you for your interest in the Scout Program at the Historic SAM Shortline Railroad. Your troop’s participation will be both educational and FUN. The following information will help you plan your Scout trip. For more information and reservations call 229-276-0755 Monday through Friday 8:30 to 5:00.

We operate trains most Fridays and Saturdays from Valentine’s Day through Christmas. Overnight Scout programs are available most Saturdays and require advance reservations.

Scout Group Pricing – Train Ride ONLY (Coach Seating)
$19.99 per scout and $29.99 for adult chaperones
The SAM Shortline Conductor will spend time with the group talking about various aspects  of train operations to fulfill the requirements for the Scout Railroading Merit Badge. SAM does not supply the Scout badges. Advanced reservations required. (Minimum of 10 tickets)

$50.00 non-refundable event fee is required to book overnight primitive camping
$29.99 per scout and $39.99 for adult chaperones (Minimum of 10 participants)

Overnight Scout programs get:

SAM Shortline patches for Scouts

Scout primitive camping includes:
Scout groups camp in the parking area right beside the train at our Georgia Veterans Depot
Restrooms (no showers) and covered picnic shelter are provided
Water and 110-volt electrical is provided
Large metal fire pit for smores and cooking

What To Bring:
You will need to bring your own tents, sleeping bags, sheets, blankets and pillows. There are no mattresses or showers available.

You will need to provide supper and breakfast for your group. While riding the train during the day, a commissary car is available for purchasing Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, hot dogs, sausage dogs, nachos and a variety of chips, candy, drinks and ice cream.

Other information:
The train depot is behind a locked gate at Georgia Veterans State Park. On-site hosts will be available to assist leaders with any needs during the night. The host resides at a campsite adjacent to the train. Phone numbers will be provided during the train ride.

Georgia Veterans State Park offers many amenities your group may enjoy during your stay including hiking trails, disc golf, radio-controlled flying field, archery range, military museum, military plane and tank displays, fishing and boat rentals. Fees may applies.

A Crisp County EMS and Fire Station is located just outside the gate of the park if an emergency arises.

Dollar General and Stripling’s Sausage & General Store are located just outside the park gate as well.
