Thank you for your interest in the Scout Program at SAM Shortline Excursion Train. We feel sure your troop’s participation will be both educational and FUN. The following is important information to help you plan your trip. Overnights are available most any night but reservations are required 2 weeks in advance.
Reservations may be made by calling 229-276-0755 Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:30. If you have any questions, please contact us during these hours or leave a message.
There are NO COED FACILITIES AVAILABLE. Several groups may share the facility. Each group will have their own train car. It is required that you plan on one adult for every eight scouts.
A $60.00 non-refundable deposit is required with your confirmation to hold your reservations. The balance of the overnight charges will vary according to group size and time allowance and will be noted on the confirmation. You may wish to bring a camera to take photographs of your troop with our SAM conductor.
Overnight accommodations to youth groups between the ages of 6 and 18 are available aboard SAM Shortline for a one-night stay. Your train ride will begin at Georgia Veterans State Park and return in the late afternoon. The train ride is $15.99 per scout and $25.99 for the chaperone.
The cost of the overnight program will be $19.99 with a minimum of $150.00 or 7 people. Included in the overnight program will be:

Restrooms are not available on the train for use however the restrooms at the group shelter are just outside the train cars.
Fire Ring for cooking your supper and breakfast
You will need to provide supper and breakfast for your group. While riding the train during the day, a commissary car is available for purchasing hot dogs, sausage dogs, bar-b-que sandwiches and a variety of chips, candy, drinks and ice cream.
WHAT TO BRING
You will need to bring your own sleeping bags, sheets, blankets and pillows. The train’s temperature can be adjusted to fit your group’s needs. There are no mattresses or showers available.
On-site hosts will be available to assist leaders with any needs during the night. The host resides at a campsite adjacent to the train. Phone numbers will be provided during the train ride. The train is behind a locked gate on Ga. Veterans State Park with a park ranger residing on property.
